Shiromani Rangreta Dal Punjab President Sardar Dharmendra Singh has accused the Congress of having an anti-Dalit mindset, alleging that the party is opposing Dushyant Gautam’s appointment as the Governor of Sikkim because he belongs to the Dalit community.
Addressing a press conference, Singh said the Congress was uncomfortable with a Dalit occupying a high constitutional position. He alleged that the party wanted people from the Dalit community in important positions only if they followed its political line, claiming that this was an attempt to mislead minorities and Dalits for political gains.
Singh said opposing an appointment to a constitutional post amounted to opposing the Constitution itself.
Referring to the Ankita Bhandari case, he said the case cited by the Congress was already under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He added that no one should be considered guilty while an investigation is ongoing.
