Images allegedly showing the shooters involved in the Rana Balachaur murder case have begun circulating on social media and video platforms. The visuals are linked to suspects said to be associated with the notorious Bambiha gang, which has been mentioned in the context of the killing of kabaddi player-promoter Kanwar Digvijay Singh, also known as Rana Balachauria.
Rana Balachauria Shot Dead at Mohali Kabaddi Tournament
Balachauria, a well-known kabaddi player and promoter from Punjab, was shot dead on December 15 during a live tournament in the Sohana area of Mohali. According to police, one or more assailants approached him under the pretext of taking a selfie before opening fire, hitting him multiple times. He was rushed to Fortis Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Police Identify Suspects, Link to Gang Rivalries
Punjab Police have identified two key suspects in the case — both reportedly from Amritsar — and affiliated with the Bambiha /Lucky Patial gang. The shooters have been named as Aditya Kapoor (alias Makhan) and Karan Pathak (alias Defaulter Karan). A third accomplice is believed to have been involved but has not yet been publicly identified.
Bambiha Gang and Alleged Motives
Social media posts from accounts claiming association with the gang have taken responsibility for the attack, citing rivalries and connections to other criminals. However, Punjab Police have denied any confirmed link to past high-profile murders such as that of singer Sidhu Moose Wala and instead suggested the killing may be tied to dominance and influence in kabaddi circuits and underworld rivalries.
Law Enforcement Response and Investigation
Senior police officials say multiple teams are actively searching for the suspects and scanning CCTV footage from the tournament venue. FIRs have been registered, and authorities are pursuing all leads to apprehend those responsible.
