New Delhi: South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad said that the last portion of the Proteas’ tour of India has provided valuable insights and preparation ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. Despite the visitors losing the T20 International series 3-1 to India, Conrad highlighted the benefits of playing in Indian conditions as part of their World Cup build-up.
Learning From Conditions and Competition
Conrad described the concluding leg of the tour as a “wonderful” learning experience, especially in conditions similar to those expected during the T20 World Cup next year. The games offered the South African squad a chance to face high-quality opposition and adapt to pitch dynamics, dew factors, and tactical variations that are likely to feature in the global tournament.
Although the T20I series ended in favor of India, the Proteas coach stressed that such competitive exposure against one of the world’s top sides is invaluable preparation for his team.
Reflecting on the Tour and World Cup Aspirations
Conrad acknowledged that while results did not always go South Africa’s way, the tour offered useful insights into playing in varied conditions. He referenced the team’s earlier success in the Test leg and competitive performances in limited overs as positive signs ahead of the World Cup.
The coach also touched on the fitness and form challenges, pointing to upcoming opportunities such as the SA20 league as further preparation before players reconvene for national duty.
Looking Forward to T20 World Cup 2026
With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 scheduled in India and Sri Lanka, Conrad and his squad are focused on fine-tuning their approach and building match readiness. Playing extended series in conditions expected at the World Cup venues gives the team a clearer idea of what to expect when the tournament begins.
South Africa aims to challenge some of the format’s strongest teams and are hopeful that the lessons learned in India will stand them in good stead when they return in full force for the global event
