Washington: At least six people, including a 5-year-old girl, were wounded in a mass shooting in a Baltimore neighbourhood on Saturday night, local media reported.
The gunfire erupted shortly before 8:50 p.m. local time (0050 GMT) near Spaulding and Queensberry Avenues, where residents had gathered outdoors to eat, according to ABC News citing Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley.
One man is in critical condition and undergoing surgery. Police have not yet released details about the suspect or suspects.
In a separate incident, three people were injured in a shooting in New York City’s Times Square early Saturday morning.
The NYPD said the victims are in stable condition, and a 17-year-old boy has been taken into custody with a firearm recovered.
The shooting took place around 1:20 a.m. (0520 GMT) at 44th Street and Seventh Avenue, prompting chaos in the busy tourist hub. Social media videos show panicked crowds fleeing, while officers surrounded a vehicle and tended to the wounded.
The violence follows last month’s deadly shooting at a Manhattan office tower on July 28, where 27-year-old Shane Tamura killed four people, injured six others, and then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. One of the victims was an off-duty NYPD officer, while the others were civilians.
