President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on the first day of the Budget Session 2026-27, outlining the government’s vision for inclusive growth, development, and social justice as India advances toward a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
Focus on Social Justice and Equality
In her address, President Murmu reiterated that every citizen should receive equal rights without discrimination, invoking the constitutional ideals championed by Babasaheb Ambedkar. She emphasized that the government is committed to true social justice, working for the empowerment of Dalits, backward classes, tribal communities, and other marginalized groups.
She highlighted that nearly 25 crore people have come out of poverty over the past decade and that the reach of social security schemes has expanded dramatically, now covering around 95 crore Indians compared with 25 crores in 2014.

President Murmu reflected on the nation’s rich heritage and significant celebrations over the past year, including the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and commemorations of tribal, cultural, and national icons, which she said inspire India’s progress.
She also highlighted the Viksit Bharat-G RAM G law, replacing MNREGA, which aims to guarantee 125 days of employment in rural areas drawing applause from Treasury bench members and protests from the Opposition.

According to President Murmu, 2026 marks a crucial phase in India’s development trajectory, building on achievements of the last 10–11 years to strengthen the nation’s foundations for further progress toward becoming a developed country.
