Ahead of IPL 2024 Sunrisers Hyderabad appoints Pat Cummins as new captain of the team

Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Australia’s Pat Cummins as the new captain of the team in place of South Africa’s Aiden Markram for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Cummins has not captained in IPL or any high level T20 cricket before. Last year, under the captaincy of Cummins, Australia won the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup.

In view of his success in the World Cup, he has been given the responsibility of captaining Sunrisers Hyderabad. Cummins had withdrawn from the last IPL season to focus on international cricket. This time, Hyderabad bought Cummins in the IPL auction for a sum of Rs 20 crores.

Apart from Cummins, Hyderabad has a good pool of foreign players in the form of players like Travis Head, Markram, Fazalhaq Faruqui, Heinrich Klaasen, Marco Jansson.

Before Cummins was appointed captain, Hyderabad also made a change in its bowling coach. In the upcoming IPL, Hyderabad Sunrisers will play their first match in Kolkata against Kolkata Knight Riders on 23 March.
