BCCI to interview Gautam Gambhir for head coach role in Mumbai today: Sources

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is scheduled to attend an interview at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai for the position of head coach of the men’s cricket team.

Sources familiar with the matter have indicated that Gambhir’s appointment seems likely, as the BCCI has agreed to the terms he presented. These terms include Gambhir’s request for full autonomy over the team and the establishment of separate squads for white-ball and red-ball formats.

The interview is scheduled to take place between 2-4 pm, with Gambhir expected to present his vision and plans for the team’s future. If appointed, Gambhir would succeed Rahul Dravid, whose tenure as head coach concluded after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Dravid’s initial contract, which began after the 2021 T20 World Cup, was extended until the end of this year’s T20I competition.

The BCCI had officially invited applications for the head coach position, setting a deadline of May 27. The role entails leadership across all three formats of the game from July 2024 through December 2027. An official announcement regarding the appointment of the new head coach is anticipated following the conclusion of Gambhir’s interview.
