Gautam Gambhir almost set to become Team India’s head coach: Sources

Mumbai : Former Team India cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir is almost certain to become the head coach of the Indian team. Talking to Cricbuzz, the owner of an IPL franchise said that Gambhir’s becoming the coach is almost certain and it will be announced soon.

According to the Cricbuzz report, Shahrukh Khan has also been informed about this. According to BCCI rules – if Gambhir becomes the head coach of the team, he will have to leave KKR’s mentorship.

Monday (May 27) was the last date to apply for the coach’s post. It is expected that Gambhir has applied for this post. However, it has not been officially confirmed yet.

Rahul Dravid is currently the head coach of Team India. His tenure will end after the T20 World Cup to be held in the US and West Indies.

The tenure of the new coach will last till 2027
The new head coach will be selected during the T20 World Cup. His tenure will start from July 1, 2024 and will last till December 31, 2027. During this time, Team India has to play 5 ICC tournaments. These include Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup along with 2 cycles of World Test Championship.

KKR became champion under Gambhir’s mentorship
The Kolkata team became the champion of IPL 2024. Gambhir was in the role of mentor of Kolkata this season. After the final match played on Sunday, Gambhir went to meet Jay Shah, which had intensified the speculation of him becoming the head coach of India.
