Paris (France): The Indian Men’s Hockey Team defeated the Great Britain hockey team to enter the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics after forcing a penalty shootout despite playing with one man less for 42 minutes.
In the quarter-final match, India defeated Britain 4-2 in the penalty shootout. In the full-time match, the score of both teams was equal at 1-1.
India scored 4 consecutive goals in the shootout. Britain’s team was able to score only two goals. Indian goalkeeper Sreejesh was the hero of the victory, who saved 2 goals.
After the end of four quarters, the score of both teams was equal at 1-1. Both teams tried to take the lead till the stipulated time but could not succeed. After this, a penalty shootout was resorted to, in which India defeated Britain 4-2. India was playing with 10 players in this match because Amit Rohidas was given a red card in the second quarter itself, due to which he was out of the entire match. However, the Indian team did not give up and gave a tough fight to Britain till the end. In this way, the Indian team has taken another step towards the medal. If India is successful in winning the semifinals, then at least the silver medal will be confirmed. India’s semi-final match will be played on August 6, i.e., Tuesday.
