Paris: A controversy has started over a women’s boxing match in the Paris Olympics. This match was taking place on Thursday between Italy’s Angela Carini and Algeria’s Imane Khelif. The whole match lasted only 46 seconds as Angela withdrew from the match in just 46 seconds and her opponent was declared winner.
Angela withdrew from the match in just 46 seconds and Iman was declared the winner in this match. A very few punches were thrown before Carini abandoned the match, which is a rare occurrence in Olympic boxing. Angela on withdrawing from the match said that she had never received such a punch. She is not a judge here. It is not her job to decide whether this match was right or wrong.’
The whole controversy over the match between two started as Imane Khelif, Algerian boxer failed the gender test by International Boxing Association. Last year she was not allowed to play the World Championship for the same reason. Later the match and controversy it started people have been demanding justice and saying that men should not be allowed to play against women.
In fact, Iman, in front of whom Angela withdrew from the match, was failed in the gender test by the International Boxing Association (IBA) a year ago. IBA did not allow Iman to play in the gold medal match of the Women’s World Championship held in Delhi last year.
Now after Iman won her first match in the Olympics, questions are being raised on social media as to why a man was put in front of a woman in the ring. IBA has also raised questions on the International Olympic Committee (IOC). IBA said that the IOC is violating the rules as justice and safety of women sportspersons have been ignored.
Italy PM Giorgia Meloni intervened
Italian PM Meloni reacted to workerism being practiced in Paris2024. She criticized males identifying themselves as females being allowed to fight against females. In a post on X, she said, “I know you won’t give up, Angela, and I know that one day you will earn with effort and sweat what you deserve. In a finally fair competition.”
