Rajat Patidar appointed as new RCB Captain 2025

New Delhi: Rajat Patidar has been appointed as the new captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The franchise gave this information through Xpost on Thursday.

31-year-old Patidar will replace Faf du Plessis. Du Plessis captained RCB in 2024, but the franchise did not retain him for 2025. There were also discussions on the name of Virat Kohli to become the captain.

Rajat has been with the team since 2021. The franchise retained him before the mega auction. Rajat is the captain of Madhya Pradesh in the 2024-25 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Du Plessis captained RCB for 3 years

Du Plessis captained the team for three years from 2022 to 2024. The franchise did not bid for 40-year-old Du Plessis in the auction and he was bought by Delhi Capitals at the base price.

Kohli was the captain of RCB for 9 years

Virat Kohli was the captain of RCB from 2013 to 2021. Then in 2021, he left the captaincy. After this, in 2022, Faf du Plessis took over the command of the team for the last three seasons. Under Virat’s captaincy, RCB reached the final in 2016, in which they had to face defeat from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Overall, Kohli captained 143 matches, out of which 66 matches were won and 70 were lost. In the last three seasons, under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis, the team made it to the playoffs in 2022 and 2024, although it missed the playoffs in 2023.

Kohli has been with RCB since 2008

Kohli was signed by RCB as an uncapped player before IPL 2008. Since then he has been a part of the team continuously. He also has the highest number of runs in IPL.
