Washington: The Group of Seven (G7) countries on Sunday strongly condemned Iran’s attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure in several Middle Eastern countries, calling them a serious threat to global security.
G7 countries call Iran’s attacks reckless
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union representative, expressed support for regional countries. The G7 said it “stands with its partners against the unjustified attacks carried out by Iran and its proxies.”
Civilians and infrastructure targeted in several Gulf countries
The statement said that Iran targeted civilians and energy infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, and Iraq. The G7 called these attacks “reckless” and demanded an immediate and unconditional halt.
Concerns about sea routes and energy supplies
The G7 also expressed concern about the security of vital sea routes like the Strait of Hormuz. The group stated that maintaining the stability of global supply chains and energy markets is crucial, and that necessary steps will be taken to achieve this.
Call to halt nuclear and missile programs
The G7 countries reiterated that Iran will never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. They urged it to halt its ballistic missile program and cease destabilizing activities in the region.
The group also stated that the countries attacked have every right to defend themselves and that the G7 stands fully with them in respecting their sovereignty and security.
