Jalandhar : Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal called upon farmers to take collective action to protect the environment by refraining from burning stubble. He also directed officials and staff working in various departments to intensify their efforts and take immediate action against incidents of stubble burning.

Accompanied by SSP Harkamal Preet Singh, Dr. Aggarwal instructed nodal and cluster officers to closely monitor the situation over the next 20 days to prevent such incidents. He emphasized that greater vigilance is now required, and officials must not only take action but also educate farmers on the availability of machinery for stubble management. He urged teams to continue field visits during this crucial period.

Farmers And Officials Present In Stubble Burning Issue Meeting

Dr. Aggarwal informed the Agriculture Department to maintain close contact with farmers, provide information about agricultural machinery, and make them aware of the harmful effects of stubble burning. He highlighted that over the past six years, the department has provided around 7,000 machines to farmers on subsidy, with over 700 more being distributed this year. He directed officials to ensure that farming machinery reaches every village to aid in stubble management.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the village Nambardars to actively participate in the anti-stubble burning campaign. Those villages that refrain from stubble burning will receive special recognition from the administration.

SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh assured that rural police are keeping a close watch on stubble burning incidents, with police personnel stationed at the village level to encourage farmers to manage stubble effectively.

The Deputy Commissioner and SSP concluded the event by appealing to farmers to contribute to environmental protection, stating that safeguarding the environment is a collective responsibility.

Senior officials including ADCs Major Dr. Amit Mahajan, Jasbir Singh, Budhiraj Singh, and various SDMs and officers from different departments were present during the meeting.
