Kolkata: Former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sujit Bose was brought to Bidhan Nagar Hospital in Kolkata for a medical examination after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged municipality recruitment scam.

The ED arrested Bose late Monday night after several hours of questioning at its CGO Complex office in Salt Lake. Officials said the arrest was made under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in municipal recruitments across West Bengal.
ED Probe Into Recruitment Irregularities
According to investigators, the case relates to alleged illegal appointments in several municipalities, including the South Dum Dum Municipality. The ED suspects that recruitment rules were violated and appointments were allegedly made in exchange for financial benefits.
The agency had earlier conducted raids at premises linked to Sujit Bose and questioned him multiple times in connection with the case.
Arrest After Day-Long Questioning
Bose appeared before ED officials on Monday along with his son, Samudra Bose. After more than 10 hours of interrogation, the central agency took him into custody. ED sources claimed there were contradictions in his statements and alleged non-cooperation during questioning.
Political Reactions Expected
The arrest is likely to intensify political tensions in West Bengal, where recruitment scam investigations have already triggered major confrontations between the ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition parties. TMC leaders have previously accused central agencies of targeting opposition politicians, while the BJP has demanded strict action in corruption-related cases.
