Tarn Taran, Oct 7: The political heat has intensified in the Tarn Taran by-election as Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), led by Bhai Amritpal Singh, has formally nominated ManDeep Singh, the brother of Sandeep Singh alias Sunny, who is currently incarcerated in a murder case.
Sandeep Singh, alias Sunny, is alleged to have shot dead Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar in November 2022
With this announcement, the Tarn Taran by-poll now features five confirmed candidates from different parties. The new Akali Dal faction under Giani Harpreet Singh has not yet declared a candidate or announced support for any of the contestants.
The by-election is garnering significant attention because of the interplay between various Akali factions and the shadow cast by Sunny’s high-profile criminal case.
