Telangana: Congress MLA and government whip Adi Srinivas, along with Rajanna Sircilla district Collector Garima Agarwal and other officials, narrowly avoided injury on Tuesday when the basement of an under-construction house collapsed during their inspection in Vemulawada.
The team was reviewing progress on double-bedroom houses being built under a state housing scheme when the ground gave way. Supporters quickly pulled the MLA back, preventing a fall.
Political Blame Game Follows Collapse
The incident triggered sharp criticism from the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which claimed that the collapse exposed corruption within the Congress government.
Adi Srinivas countered these allegations, stating that the construction work had been sanctioned and initiated under the previous BRS administration.
He alleged that substandard materials and rushed work by contractors appointed during that period were responsible for the structural failure.
Congress Says Collapse Proves Old Regime’s Failures
The MLA recalled that the houses in Narsapuram were left incomplete during the BRS tenure, with poor-quality materials used in the portions that were constructed.
He said the Congress had highlighted these issues earlier and was now working to finish the pending houses and hand them over to beneficiaries. Srinivas also drew parallels with structural failures reported in the Kaleshwaram project.
He assured residents that the government would speed up completion of the houses and ensure they are delivered to eligible families soon.
