Hyderabad: A crude bomb exploded at Bhadrachalam Road railway station in Kothagudem town, Telangana, on Wednesday, killing a stray dog and causing panic among passengers.
Explosion Linked to Stray Dog
The explosive device detonated on the railway track near Platform No. 1. Authorities believe the stray dog bit into a black bag lying on the platform, triggering the blast. Passengers rushed for safety as the explosion echoed across the station.
Additional Bombs Recovered
Following the incident, Railway Police and local law enforcement cordoned off the area. During a search operation, officers found four more crude bombs in a nearby garbage dump. The onion-shaped bombs, stored in three bags, are typically used for hunting wild animals.
Police Probe Underway
Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police Rohit Raju stated that the dog likely mistook the bag for food, dragging it onto the railway track where it exploded. Authorities are investigating who placed the bombs and are reviewing CCTV footage from the station.
SP Raju also appealed to the public not to spread rumours on social media, emphasizing that there was no other angle to the incident. The explosion occurred a day after Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the district for official engagements, and the station had heightened security for VVIP movement.
