Tensions escalate ahead of CM and BJP President’s arrival
Security was tightened at the Banke Bihari Temple complex ahead of the proposed visit by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the BJP National President. Citing VIP security, the administration initiated the process of evacuating the temple premises, including asking the sevayat Goswamis, who had been serving the temple for generations, to leave. During this period, the situation within the temple complex became tense.
Goswami Allegations: Mistreatment and Clothes Torn
A heated argument broke out between police officers and Sevayat Goswamis during the temple evacuation. Sevayat Shivraj Goswami alleged that he was treated rudely and his clothes were even torn. In a video that surfaced on social media, Superintendent of Police Crime, Awanish Mishra, can be seen arguing with Sevayat Jani Goswami and Rajat Goswami, Sevayats of the Banke Bihari Temple. Following this, the Goswamis were evicted from the temple premises.
Anger among Goswami families, police refuse to comment
The alleged treatment meted out to Sevayat Goswamis was met with widespread anger among Goswami families. Men and women united and protested, raising slogans. The Goswamis claim that they wanted to meet the Chief Minister peacefully and present their views, but were prevented from doing so by officials. Attempts were made to speak to police officials regarding the matter, but neither official declined to comment.
