Srinagar/Jammu: Three people drowned in two separate incidents in J&K’s Ganderbal and Jammu districts on Monday, officials said.
Two Missing in Ganderbal Power Canal
Two persons went missing after reportedly falling into a power canal near Ramwari area of Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, triggering a large-scale search and rescue operation.
Police said information was received about two persons falling into the canal at Gund-21 near Ramwari, following which rescue teams were immediately deployed.
Multi-Agency Search Operation Underway
Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and local volunteers launched an extensive search operation in the canal and adjoining areas to trace the missing persons.
Officials said the operation is continuing, with rescuers combing the canal stretch under difficult conditions, while senior officers are monitoring the situation.
Teen Feared Dead in Jammu Tawi River
In another incident, a 15-year-old boy is feared dead after slipping into the Tawi River in Jammu while taking a selfie near the Har Ki Pauri area.
The teenager, identified as Yudhvir Singh Chib, reportedly lost balance and fell into the fast-flowing river while visiting the bank with friends.
Rescue Efforts Continue
SDRF teams, police personnel, and local volunteers launched a search operation immediately after the incident. However, the boy remained untraced as efforts continued to retrieve him.
Officials noted a worrying rise in drowning incidents across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in rivers, canals, and streams swollen by seasonal water flow.
Authorities have repeatedly urged people to avoid risky activities near water bodies and follow safety advisories.
