Jalandhar: Three suspected shooters associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang were arrested after a brief encounter with police in Jalandhar, Punjab, on Wednesday.
One of the accused was injured in the exchange of fire and has been admitted to hospital.
Key Accused Linked to Amritsar Murder Case
The injured suspect, Mankaran Singh, sustained a bullet wound in the stomach and is under medical care.
According to police, Mankaran is an accomplice in the Dharma murder case of Amritsar and has multiple criminal cases registered against him.
Police also arrested his two associates — Simranjit Singh and Jaiveer Singh — and recovered illegal weapons from their possession.
Police Action and Encounter Details
Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur said that the encounter followed a firing incident in the Rama Mandi area early Wednesday morning.
“After tracing their location to the Salempur Masanda area, the accused opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, police fired back, injuring one of them,” she said.
The accused, who were on a motorcycle, reportedly tried to flee but were overpowered by the police.
Gang Links Under Investigation
Investigators confirmed that Mankaran has direct links with gangsters Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Amrit Dalam.
The police have launched further investigations to determine whether the trio was planning a new crime in Jalandhar.
