New Delhi, July 5: The Government of India has given a big relief in toll tax on National Highways. Toll tax has now been reduced by up to 50% on highway sections with bridges, tunnels, flyovers or elevated roads. This decision has been taken especially for those routes where high-infrastructure is present in most parts. This will make the journey cheaper for both passengers and transporters.
New calculation method of toll tax
According to NHAI, earlier the toll for these structures was calculated 10 times more than the normal rate. Now under the new rules, the toll will be calculated in two ways and the lower amount will be applicable. For example, the toll on Dwarka Expressway was earlier Rs. 317, which may now be reduced to around Rs. 153.
On which roads will the new rules apply?
This new rule will apply only to those highways where more than 50% of the part is made up of structures like bridges, tunnels or flyovers. On normal highways, which have less such structures, the old toll rates will remain applicable.
Annual pass of ₹3000 for FASTag
The government has taken another important decision and announced a FASTag annual pass for private vehicles. It will cost ₹3000 and will be available from August 15. This pass will be valid for one year or 200 toll crossings (whichever is earlier).
This will reduce the average cost of each toll crossing to around ₹15, which is very beneficial for frequent travelers.
Relief to common passengers and transport sector
This change in toll tax and the annual pass option will bring financial relief to both common passengers and commercial vehicles. This will make travel on routes like ring road, bypass cheaper and easier. This step of the government is a big decision towards improving traffic flow on highways and reducing people’s expenses.
