New Delhi: On Saturday, August 9, 2025, a devastating wall collapse in Delhi’s Jaitpur area killed 8 people, including three men, two women, and two children, during heavy rainfall that battered the national capital.
The incident follows another recent tragedy in Delhi’s Civil Lines, highlighting ongoing safety concerns during the monsoon season.
Fatal Wall Collapse in Jaitpur
A portion of a wall in Jaitpur collapsed early Saturday, trapping several people under debris. The victims were identified as Shabibul (30), Rabibul (30 pulsating), Ali (45), Rubina (25), Dolly (25), Ruqsana (6), and Hasina (7). One survivor, Hashibul, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
The Delhi Fire Services promptly launched a rescue operation to recover those trapped. This tragedy comes just ten days after a similar incident in Civil Lines, where an under-construction building collapse claimed the lives of Meera (40) and her son Ganpath (17), injuring two others.
Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Delhi
Delhi faced intense rainfall on Saturday, leading to severe waterlogging across the city and prompting a red alert from the weather department, later downgraded to yellow. The downpour disrupted flight operations and daily life.
Weather stations reported significant rainfall, with Pragati Maidan recording the highest at 100 mm by 8:30 AM. The temperature dropped to 23.8°C, 3.2°C below average, with a projected high of 32°C.
The heavy rains underscore the recurring challenges of urban infrastructure during the monsoon, contributing to incidents like the Jaitpur collapse.
