Two Brothers in Faridkot Commit Suicide Over Debt, Leave Family Devastated

Faridkot: Two brothers tragically ended their lives by jumping in front of a train, holding hands. Their bodies were found on the railway track near the village of Hari Nau.

Balveer, the father of Jarkaran and Jaswinder, who were born after six daughters, has been unconscious since the incident. When asked about what happened, he simply shook his hands and said, “My mind is not working.”

Financial Struggles and Farming Debt

Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a leader of the United Kisan Morcha, visited the family to share their grief. He said that both brothers were dependent on farming and had accumulated a debt of ₹35 lakh while managing household expenses.

Deeply in love, they made the tragic decision to jump in front of a train without informing anyone. While thousands of farmers in Punjab have tragically taken their lives, this case stands out due to the involvement of two brothers together.

Signs of Poverty and Hardship

According to Dallewal, the brothers’ debt and the state of their home reflect the harsh realities of farming in Punjab.

Their house, built 10 years ago, shows visible signs of neglect—dilapidated windows, old doors, unplastered walls, and stairs without railings—highlighting their financial struggles.

Family Left in Shock and Grief

The grief was palpable on the faces of the wives, children, and elderly parents. The two young daughters, aged 8 and 10, are unable to comprehend the tragedy.

The family is left wondering about their future after the sudden loss of both sons. On Tuesday, the two brothers were cremated at the village crematorium. The brothers had jumped in front of a moving train on Monday, March 23.
