Heavy rain lashed Ludhiana, Punjab, on Thursday morning, while overcast conditions prevailed in several areas, including Mohali and Pathankot. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert predicting rainfall across several districts of Punjab and Chandigarh over the next two days. Rain is also expected to continue from August 1 to August 4.
July, the most crucial and high-rainfall month of the monsoon season, is drawing to a close. This year, rainfall in July was 24 percent below normal. However, the monsoon is likely to pick up pace again during the first week of August.
Punjab’s average maximum temperature rose by 1 degree Celsius over the past 24 hours. However, temperatures are expected to drop again due to anticipated continuous rainfall over the coming days.
Faridkot Recorded the Highest Temperature
On Wednesday, the highest maximum temperature in Punjab was recorded in Faridkot at 38.1 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Amritsar recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 23.9 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius—1.3 degrees above normal—and a minimum of 24.0 degrees Celsius. The Chandigarh airport area recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius.
Good Rainfall in Several Districts
Gurdaspur recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours at 49.8 mm. Other recorded rainfall figures include 46 mm in Bathinda, 45.6 mm in Chandigarh, 28.5 mm in Mohali, 23 mm in Faridkot, 17.6 mm in Amritsar, 17.5 mm at Thein Dam (Pathankot), 15.3 mm at Ballowal Saunkhri, and 8.5 mm at KVK Pathankot.
Chandigarh has received a total of 337.2 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 29, which is 17.2 percent below normal.
