The monsoon is set to become active once again in Punjab and Chandigarh. According to the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, heavy rainfall is likely in several areas on August 3 and 4. In view of this, the Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for both days. The department has urged people to remain cautious during inclement weather, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay away from open spaces during lightning activity.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also likely in most parts of the region on August 5 and 6. However, the chances of heavy rainfall during this period are low. The rainfall is expected to bring down temperatures, offering relief from the humid heat.
Current Heat Conditions in Chandigarh
According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2°C on Sunday, which was 2°C above normal. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature stood at 27.4°C, 1°C above normal. Only a ‘trace’ (negligible) amount of rainfall was recorded in the city over the past 24 hours.
Bathinda Hottest in Punjab
According to the Meteorological Department’s report, the average maximum temperature in Punjab rose by 0.4°C compared to the previous day. The state’s average maximum temperature remains 1.6°C above normal. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Bathinda at 36.5°C.
Additionally, temperatures of 35.4°C in Patiala, 35.1°C in Amritsar, and 35.0°C in Ludhiana were recorded. The weather remained dry and humid across most parts of the state over the last 24 hours; however, 22.5 mm of rainfall was recorded in Nangal and 2 mm in Barnala.
Rainfall to Bring Down Temperatures
According to experts, continuous rainfall will lead to a drop in temperature and provide relief from humidity. However, there remains a possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas and disruptions to traffic. In light of this, people have been advised to follow the Meteorological Department’s recommendations and avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather.
