Slovakia: Indian women’s wrestlers added three more medals to the country’s tally at the U20 World Championships in Slovakia, with Mansi Lather winning silver and Tanvi Gundesh Magdum and Komal securing bronze medals on Saturday.
Mansi Lather Falls Narrowly In Gold Medal Bout
In the 68kg category, Mansi Lather fought a closely contested gold medal bout against China’s Chenling Song.
Mansi narrowly lost the defensive contest 1-2, settling for a silver medal and adding another podium finish to India’s campaign.
Tanvi, Komal Secure Bronze Medals
India added two more medals through strong performances in the bronze medal bouts.
In the 57kg category, Tanvi Gundesh Magdum defeated Canada’s Agnia Krakovska 10-4 to secure the bronze medal.
Shortly afterwards, Komal produced a composed performance in the 59kg category, defeating Hungary’s Eda Balazs 5-2 to claim another bronze for India.
Kajal Leads India’s Gold Medal Charge
Earlier on Friday, India’s wrestling sensation Kajal Dhochak won gold in the 76kg category, defeating China’s Jingru Sun 7-0 on points (VPO) in the championship bout.
The 18-year-old’s victory added another major achievement to her growing international record. She had previously won the 2024 U17 World Championship in the 69kg category and the 2025 U20 World Championship in the 72kg category.
Kajal has also won gold at the U23 Asian Championships and the Budapest Ranking Series earlier this year.
Tanu Sharma, Savita Take Silver
India also secured two silver medals on Friday.
In the 72kg category, Tanu Sharma fought Japan’s Chisato Yoshida in the final but narrowly lost 3-5 on points (VPO1).
In the 62kg category, Savita went down 2-12 by technical superiority (VSU1) against Japan’s Sakura Onishi to finish with silver.
With the U20 World Championships entering their final stages, India remains in contention for more medals.
The Indian contingent will next compete in the remaining men’s freestyle categories — 57kg, 65kg, 79kg and 92kg.
