London: A British-born Sikh woman in her 20s was raped and brutally assaulted in Oldbury, England, earlier this week in what police are investigating as a racially motivated hate crime.
Attack in Broad Daylight
The incident occurred near Tame Road on the morning of September 9, around 8:30 a.m., when the victim was approached by two white men in a park area. According to West Midlands Police, the attackers not only raped and beat her but also shouted racist abuse during the assault.
Eyewitness accounts confirm the men yelled statements such as “You don’t belong in this country, get out” and “Go back to your country.” These remarks led police to classify the case as racially aggravated, reflecting the intersection of sexual violence and hate-motivated crime.
Community Outrage
The assault has sparked shock and anger among Sikh organisations and the wider South Asian community in the UK. Many have called for stronger safeguards against hate crimes and better protection for women of colour, warning of rising racial tensions across the region.
Immediate Police Response
The survivor, identified as a British Person of Indian Origin (PIO), managed to report the crime soon after the assault. Law enforcement teams responded immediately, with West Midlands Police confirming that the investigation is ongoing and that specialised officers are supporting the victim.
