The schedule for India’s 16th Census has been announced in Uttar Pradesh. The census in the state will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will commence on May 22, 2026, while the population enumeration work in the second phase will be completed in February 2027.
During the first phase from May 22 to June 20, 2026, house listing and housing enumeration will take place. During this period, census enumerators will visit every household to collect information regarding the status of each dwelling, the amenities available to the family, and details concerning their assets, utilizing a dedicated mobile application. The entire process will be conducted through digital means.
Deployment of Officers and Staff
The second phase, involving the actual population enumeration, will take place in February 2027. During this phase, details regarding family members, social demographics, and other essential information will be recorded. The state government has deployed a large-scale workforce of officers and employees to carry out this census operation.
Approximately 525,000 officers and employees have been engaged across the entire state. This workforce includes all 18 Divisional Commissioners, 75 District Magistrates, 17 Municipal Commissioners, 600 District-level Officers, 1,195 Charge Officers, 285 Master Trainers, and 6,939 Field Trainers.
Furthermore, approximately 500,000 Supervisors and Enumerators will undertake the task of collecting data through door-to-door visits. According to the administration, preparations for the census have been accelerated, and the concerned officials have been issued directives to complete their assigned tasks within the stipulated timeframe.
