Lucknow: Electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh are likely to see a rise in their power bills from June due to the implementation of a monthly fuel and power purchase adjustment surcharge (FPPAS) by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).
According to official tariff documents and regulatory filings, the increase is part of a formula-based monthly adjustment system, under which changes in fuel costs and power purchase expenses are passed on to consumers.
Bills May Rise Around 10% in June Cycle
The surcharge for the relevant billing cycle is expected to result in an approximate increase of around 10 per cent in electricity bills, though officials clarify that this is not a permanent hike in base electricity tariffs.
No Permanent Tariff Hike, Say Officials
Power sector sources said the adjustment is linked to higher electricity procurement costs in previous months, which are now being recovered through the regulatory mechanism approved by the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC).
The FPPAS mechanism allows discoms to recover fluctuations in fuel and power purchase costs on a monthly basis, meaning electricity bills can vary depending on market conditions and power demand.
Officials clarified that no new tariff hike has been announced by the state government, and the increase is purely due to the surcharge adjustment mechanism already in place.
Consumer bills will reflect the revised surcharge from the June billing cycle onwards.
