Gairsain (Uttarakhand): Police used water cannons to disperse Congress leaders and workers who were planning to surround the Assembly in Bhararisain, Gairsain, Uttarakhand, on Tuesday. The Congress held this protest to protest inflation, unemployment, and other public interest issues.
The protest, organized at the call of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, was led by State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal. Congress leaders accused the BJP government of ignoring public problems and adopting policies they believe are against the interests of the common people.
The Congress stated that the purpose of the protest was to raise issues such as rising inflation, unemployment, state government policies, and other serious issues affecting the people of Uttarakhand.
Speaking to ANI, Ganesh Godiyal alleged that the government had failed to live up to the expectations of those who had elected it with the hope of a better future.
Godiyal said, “The people of the state elected a government with great expectations, promising better days. But over time, this government has subjected the people of the state to political, social, and economic oppression. The Congress Party and our workers cannot stand idly by while the people of our region and state suffer such hardships.”
The protest came on the opening day of the two-day session of the Uttarakhand Assembly. Congress had called for a gherao of the Assembly over 14 public interest issues. The party targeted the BJP government for neglecting development issues, corruption, and unemployment.
In view of the protest, security was tightened around the Uttarakhand Assembly in Bhararisain. Barricades were erected on several roads leading to the Assembly. A large number of police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel were deployed. People and vehicles heading towards the Assembly premises were also checked.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state government is presenting a full budget with provisions for the overall development of Uttarakhand. It includes new schemes and also focuses on innovation.
Dhami said, “We are presenting a full budget, which makes provisions for the all-round development of the state. Some new schemes have also been included. Innovation has been emphasized, and existing schemes will be further accelerated.”
Responding to the opposition’s performance, the Chief Minister called for a positive approach. He said that the opposition’s performance can also motivate the government to do better, and important work will be done within the Assembly.
Dhami said, “The opposition is protesting, but I believe there should be a positive approach. In a way, the opposition also encourages us to do better. After all, all important work will be done within the Assembly.”
