Dehradun : The Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Bill (UCC) is one step closer to becoming law, as the Raj Bhavan on Thursday sent the bill to the President’s Office for approval. According to the Raj Bhavan source, after the approval of President Draupadi Murmu, the way will be cleared for the implementation of UCC law in Uttarakhand. The government has sent the UCC Bill to Uttarakhand Governor Gurmeet Singh, who has sent it to President Murmu for approval.
Emphasizing its importance, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s government introduced the UCC Bill on February 6. Now, with Raj Bhavan’s nod, the legislative channel has paved the way for the bill to be presented to the President for final approval. Earlier, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill has been implemented in the state after taking into consideration several factors and the Bill has the support, votes and blessings of the people of Uttarakhand.
Speaking to the media in Haridwar on Saturday, Chief Minister Dhami said, “The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill was implemented in the state keeping in mind all geographical factors, members of our diverse communities and members of religious organizations.” It has the support, votes and blessings of the people of Uttarakhand.” The Chief Minister further said that just as the sacred Ganga originates from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, similarly the UCC bill has also emerged from the state. On February 7, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the passage of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the Assembly was “a historic day in the history of Uttarakhand”.
He emphasized that this law will benefit every section of the society and the government promise made to the people has been fulfilled. The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill was passed with a simple majority during a special session of the Uttarakhand Assembly on February 7. The Uniform Civil Code, which proposes uniform or similar laws for all communities, was introduced by the Chief Minister during the special session. The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill is a proposal to establish uniform rules for personal matters for all citizens in India.
These matters include marriage, divorce, inheritance and property rights. The UCC will apply equally to all citizens, regardless of their religion, gender or sexual orientation. The UCC is part of the Directive Principles of Non-Equitable State Policy of the Constitution. Some members of the Constituent Assembly strongly advocated its binding implementation, while others raised concerns about potential infringements on religious freedom and cultural diversity.
