Randeep Surjewala, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Congress party, has leveled serious allegations regarding the theft of votes within the Panchkula Municipal Corporation. Speaking to journalists in Chandigarh, Surjewala stated that a new misdeed by the “vote-stealing government” has come to light; they now intend to steal votes in Panchkula. He asserted that the BJP’s modus operandi is simply to “steal votes and win elections.”
He further claimed that there are 17,086 duplicate voter entries corresponding to 8,545 individuals. This figure exceeds 8 percent of the total electorate. He argued that while duplicate entries involving two or four people might be dismissed as a routine error, duplicate entries affecting over 17,000 individuals cannot be considered a mere oversight. Consequently, he declared that the entire voter list is currently tainted and compromised.
Meanwhile, Rao Narendra, the President of the Haryana Congress, noted that their leader, Rahul Gandhi, had previously exposed similar instances of fraudulent voting in Delhi. He warned that potential fraud is not limited to the Panchkula Municipal Corporation but may also exist within the municipal corporations of Sonipat and Ambala. He added that while irregularities in only one location have been exposed so far, they have formally lodged a complaint accompanied by concrete evidence with the State Election Commissioner regarding this matter.
Surjewala expressed confidence that, given the submission of a complaint backed by evidence, the Election Commission would take appropriate action. He emphasized that this is no longer the time for mere investigation, but rather the time for immediate and decisive action. He further stated that the matter was investigated under the leadership of State President Rao Narendra Singh, and the full extent of the fraudulent activity was uncovered within a span of one month.
