West Bengal CEO Opens Multiple Channels to Assist Voters During Special Revision Drive

SIR in Bengal: Voters furnishing forged documents to face strong legal action, says ECI

Kolkata: In a bid to make the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) smoother and more convenient for voters, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, has introduced several new measures to help citizens stay informed and connected with their Booth-Level Officers (BLOs).

Public Access to BLO Details

The CEO’s office has announced that the contact details of all BLOs, including their mobile numbers, will be made publicly available. This move aims to ensure that voters can directly reach out to their designated BLOs in case of any difficulties or discrepancies.

“The details of the BLOs, including their mobile numbers, will be available on the official websites of the CEO’s office and the respective district magistrates, who also serve as district electoral officers,” said an official from the CEO’s office.

Additionally, area-wise awareness drives will be conducted to inform residents about their respective BLOs and how to contact them.

Three-Stage SIR Process Begins November 4

The Special Intensive Revision process, announced earlier this week for 12 Indian states, including West Bengal, will commence on November 4.

In the first phase, BLOs will visit every household with enumeration forms, collecting voter details. After this phase concludes, a draft voters’ list for the state will be published.

Multiple Options for Submitting Forms

To make the process more flexible, the CEO’s office has opened multiple submission channels for voters:

  • Voters can hand over the filled enumeration forms directly to BLOs during their visits.

  • They can also submit forms at the local electoral registration office.

  • Alternatively, voters can fill and submit forms online via the CEO’s official website.

For voters who are away from home for professional reasons, a family member may submit the form on their behalf, provided they mention the voter’s name and relationship clearly.

A CEO office insider emphasized, “A voter’s name will only appear in the draft list once the duly filled form is submitted.”

Goal: Convenience and Transparency

All these initiatives, officials said, are part of an ongoing effort to simplify voter registration and enhance transparency in the electoral process, ensuring every eligible citizen has easy access to the system.
