Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States from September 23 to 25 for a state visit at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed on Monday. The visit is expected to focus on key issues in China-US relations, trade, artificial intelligence (AI) and broader global concerns.
Xi Jinping to Hold Talks With Donald Trump
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Xi and Trump will hold “in-depth exchanges of views” on major issues concerning China-US relations as well as world peace and development.
Guo said China is willing to work with the US to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, enhance dialogue and cooperation, and properly manage differences.
The upcoming meeting comes as both sides continue discussions on trade and other areas of bilateral friction. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, Beijing’s top trade negotiator, is also in the US for talks with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Trade Truce and AI Dialogue on Agenda
Trade remains a key issue ahead of the Trump-Xi meeting, with the two countries having maintained a tariff truce while working toward a longer-term arrangement. US and Chinese officials have also recently discussed establishing a communication channel on AI-related concerns.
The discussions are also expected to cover broader strategic issues, including global instability and developments in the Middle East.
Xi’s First US Visit Since Previous State Visit
The September 23-25 trip will be a state visit by Xi at Trump’s invitation. The two leaders are expected to discuss both bilateral issues and wider international concerns during their meetings.
China has said the visit is aimed at strengthening dialogue, managing differences and developing what it describes as a relationship of constructive strategic stability between the two countries.
