Nagoya: India secured a double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw at the Asian Games 2026, with Yashvir Singh winning the silver medal and Rohit Yadav claiming bronze in the final in Nagoya, Japan.
Yashvir produced a personal-best throw of 85.72 metres to finish second, while Rohit recorded 84.35 metres to take third place. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage won the gold medal with a best throw of 88.55 metres.
Yashvir delivers personal best for silver
Yashvir’s 85.72m effort proved enough to secure the silver medal in a competitive final. His performance marked another major achievement for the Indian javelin thrower on the continental stage.
Rohit Yadav also put in a strong performance, crossing the 84-metre mark to finish third and give India two medals in the same event.
The double podium finish came in the absence of defending Asian Games champion Neeraj Chopra, who was ruled out of the 2026 Games because of an injury. Chopra had won the men’s javelin gold at the 2018 and 2023 Asian Games.
Pathirage wins gold
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage continued his strong 2026 season by winning the Asian Games javelin gold with a throw of 88.55m. His performance placed him ahead of Yashvir and Rohit in the final standings.
The result gave India two more athletics medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with Yashvir and Rohit finishing second and third respectively.
The men’s javelin final was held at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Monday, September 28.
