Gorakhpur: Amidst the severe cold wave continuing in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inspected temporary night shelters in Gorakhpur on Wednesday and issued strict instructions to officials to ensure that no one is forced to sleep in the open. The Chief Minister visited the night shelters in Bargadwa and Raptinagar, interacted with residents, and distributed blankets and food to those in need.
After the inspection, he said that district administrations, municipal corporations, municipalities, and local bodies across the state have been instructed to ensure that no one sleeps on footpaths, roads, or railway tracks and that everyone is provided with decent shelter.
Relief work on war footing, funds released
The Chief Minister informed that adequate funds have been released to all districts to protect people from the cold wave. He said that the administration has been instructed to implement relief measures on a war footing, including the operation of large-scale night shelters, distribution of blankets and woolen clothing, and lighting bonfires in public places.
While interacting with the people staying in the shelters, the Chief Minister took feedback on the arrangements. People expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and thanked the government for the timely assistance.
19 shelters in Gorakhpur, relief to thousands of people
Speaking to the media, CM Yogi informed that 19 night shelters are currently operating in the Gorakhpur metropolitan area, providing temporary accommodation to approximately 1,000 homeless and needy people. He said that similar arrangements have been made in all districts and urban areas of the state, and the administration has been instructed to remove homeless people from the streets and transport them to shelters.
The Chief Minister also appealed to social organizations and donors to come forward and distribute blankets and warm clothing, calling it an act of charity and humanity.
It is noteworthy that this was the Chief Minister’s third visit to Gorakhpur in December. He had previously inspected night shelters and distributed relief materials on December 10 and 28.
