US President Donald Trump has scored another victory. YouTube has settled his account suspension case, and he will get $24.5 million (about ₹217 crore). Donald Trump had sued YouTube over the suspension of his account, and now he is getting this huge amount in return. Earlier, Trump had received settlements worth crores of rupees from Meta and X in similar cases.
What was the case?
President Donald Trump’s social media accounts were suspended after the 2021 attack on the US Capitol. During this attack, protesters entered the US Parliament and caused widespread unrest. Trump’s social media posts, in which he accused voters of fraud, were blamed for this. After this major incident, Meta, Twitter (X) and YouTube suspended Donald Trump’s accounts for several days.
Trump files lawsuit
Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against Meta, X and YouTube over the suspension of his account. Meta paid $25 million, and Twitter (X) paid Trump $10 million to settle the case. After this, Google’s YouTube is now paying him $24.5 million as a settlement. In total, Donald Trump has received more than $80 million from these lawsuits.
Who will the money go to?
According to documents filed in a federal court in California, $22 million of the settlement will go to the National Mall Trust, and the remaining funds will go to those who filed the case, including the American Conservative Union. In total, Donald Trump has already collected significant compensation from several major social media companies.
