Zirakpur: Two children catching kites near tracks hit by train, died

A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening near Baltana railway crossing in Zirakpur, Mohali district, Punjab. Two minor boys, who were chasing kites near the railway tracks, were hit by a passenger train and died on the spot. The incident took place near Harmilap Nagar Colony at around 6 PM. Upon receiving the information, the GRP (Government Railway Police) arrived at the scene and launched an investigation.

The deceased have been identified as 14-year-old Shivam and 10-year-old Aarush Kumar. According to eyewitnesses, the two boys were chasing kites very close to the railway tracks. They were unaware of the fast-approaching passenger train from behind and were struck by it. Aarush Kumar was a fourth-grade student, while Shivam was in the sixth grade and a resident of Abhaypur. The families of the victims are devastated, and a wave of grief has swept through the entire area.

Frequent Movement in the Area

Local residents said that there is an open area on both sides of the railway tracks near Harmilap Nagar and Baltana railway crossing. This is a residential area, due to which children and local residents frequently move around here. Especially during kite flying season, a large number of children gather near the tracks, increasing the risk of such accidents.

Demand for High Walls or Strong Fencing

The people have demanded that the railway administration construct high walls or strong fencing on both sides of the tracks to prevent such accidents in the future. Investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Satyavir Singh (GRP), said that the case is being investigated from all angles. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the families have been informed.
