From Gorakhpur to Delhi: Police Seize 10 Kg Gold Worth Rs 15 Crore in UP’s Kannauj

Kannauj: Police have seized around 10 kilograms of gold worth nearly Rs 15 crore from a car in the Talgram police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district, officials said.

According to preliminary information, the suspected gold smugglers were travelling in a car on the Expressway when their vehicle collided with a police vehicle. Following the collision, police chased the car and intercepted it.

    10 Gold Bricks Recovered

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly recovered 10 gold bricks from the possession of two men travelling in the car. Both suspects were taken into custody and are being questioned.

Preliminary information suggests that the gold was allegedly being transported from Gorakhpur to Daryaganj in Delhi.

Sources said the gold may have been brought into India through Nepal before being transported through Uttar Pradesh. However, the exact origin of the gold, its intended recipient and the suspected smuggling network are yet to be established.

    GST, Customs Teams Join Probe

Following the seizure, a GST team reached Talgram police station to examine and verify the recovered gold. A team from the Customs Department is also expected to join the investigation.

Authorities are examining documents and other material recovered from the vehicle to establish the ownership and legal status of the gold.

Officials are also expected to assess the purity, market value and documentation of the seized gold.

    Probe Into Possible Smuggling Network

Police and other agencies are investigating whether the two suspects are part of a larger interstate or international gold smuggling network.

The alleged use of routes through Nepal has also raised concerns among authorities. Further questioning of the suspects is underway, while agencies are working to identify other individuals who may be connected to the consignment.

    The investigation is ongoing.
