Ottawa: A 23-year-old Punjab-born man was shot dead outside a commercial complex in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. Canadian authorities suspect this may have been a premeditated attack. A possible connection between the burning of a vehicle following the incident and the young man’s murder is also being investigated.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of gunfire
According to a Khalsa Vox report, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. local time on October 5th. The Langley Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received reports of gunfire in the 6000 block of 200 Street.
Police arrived at the scene and found a young man injured in the parking lot of a commercial complex near 200 Street and 60 Avenue. Emergency service personnel attempted to revive him, but the man died at the scene.
Burnt car found 20 minutes after the incident
Canadian authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased. However, it is reported that the young man was a resident of Langley and had roots in Punjab.
About 20 minutes after the shooting, police received a report of a vehicle on fire near the intersection of 232 Street and 75 Avenue. Investigators found a burned-out sedan at the scene, which is suspected to be linked to the attack.
An investigation is underway to determine whether the vehicle was deliberately set on fire to destroy evidence or conceal the suspects’ movements after the attack.
Gang involvement suspected in the murder, investigation ongoing
According to a Khalsa Vox report, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating the case. Integrated Forensic Identification Services, Langley RCMP, and the British Columbia Coroners Service are also assisting in the investigation.
Initial investigations indicate that the deceased may have been deliberately targeted. Gang involvement has also been suspected, but investigators have not yet publicly confirmed this. Police have not yet identified any suspects or made any arrests.
