Delhi: 24-Year-Old Shot Dead at Maujpur Café in Debt Row

A 24-year-old man was brutally shot dead late Friday night at a café in the Maujpur area of northeast Delhi, police said, in what preliminary inquiries suggest was a dispute over unpaid debt. The shocking incident took place at Mr. King Lounge and Café, drawing swift action by law enforcement authorities.

The fatal encounter was reported around 10:28 pm in the Welcome locality, with PCR call alerting police to a firing incident. Officers rushing to the scene found the critically injured victim lying near the café and immediately rushed him to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital. Doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.

Victim Identified as Faizan

The deceased has been identified as Faizan, also known as Fazzi (24), a resident of Welcome in northeast Delhi. Early reports from police indicate that unidentified assailants opened fire on him, striking him multiple times at or near the café.

Officials are probing the sequence of events leading up to the shooting, examining CCTV footage from the café and nearby locations to trace the movements of the suspects before and after the attack.

Debt Dispute Appears to Be Motive

According to some local sources and family members, the violent attack may have stemmed from a dispute over an unpaid loan. A father-and-son duo are suspected to be involved, and Faizan’s family has alleged that a complaint was previously filed at the Bhajanpura Police Station against them related to an old debt.

Faizan’s brother described the brutality of the shooting, stating that multiple rounds struck him — including one that penetrated his head and two others that hit his chest. Signs of a struggle, such as cuts on his hands, suggested Faizan may have fought back before succumbing to his injuries.

Police Investigation Underway

A case has been registered at the Welcome Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Murder) and relevant sections of the Arms Act. The Delhi Police have sealed off the area, and a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team has been deployed to collect physical and scientific evidence from the crime scene.

Investigating teams are also carrying out raids at suspected hideouts and tracking leads provided by local informers to identify and apprehend the accused. Officers are questioning café staff and others present at the time of the incident to piece together crucial details about what transpired.

So far, no arrests have been made, and the motive beyond the alleged debt dispute remains under investigation. Police have not ruled out other angles as the inquiry progresses.

Family Seeks Justice

Faizan’s family has demanded swift action and justice, urging authorities to apprehend those responsible for the senseless killing. They claim they only want accountability and the strictest possible legal action against the alleged perpetrators.
