24-Year-Old Woman Sarpanch Killed in Hoshiarpur Road Accident, Niece Critically Injured

Hoshiarpur: A tragic road accident near Jalalpur village under Tanda in Hoshiarpur district claimed the life of a young woman sarpanch, while her niece sustained critical injuries after their motorcycle was hit by a private college bus.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Nikita, the elected sarpanch of Basti Bohadan village. According to family members, she was also engaged in tailoring work alongside her public responsibilities.

Her niece, Sonakshi, daughter of Balwinder Singh, suffered serious injuries in the accident and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains under treatment in critical condition.

Bus Hits Motorcycle Near Jalalpur

According to information received, Nikita and Sonakshi were travelling on a motorcycle for personal work when the accident occurred near Jalalpur village. A speeding private college bus allegedly struck their motorcycle with great force.

The impact threw both riders onto the road, causing severe injuries. Nikita succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Sonakshi was critically injured.

Following the accident, passersby alerted the police. A team led by Rajwinder Singh, in-charge of the Basti Bohadan police outpost, reached the spot and initiated the investigation.

Police shifted the injured woman to hospital and took custody of the bus involved in the accident.

Investigation Underway

Rajwinder Singh stated that a case has been registered against the bus driver based on the statement of Nikita’s husband, Sukhwinder Singh. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

Authorities said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
