In Punjab and Chandigarh, people are expected to get relief from the heat from today (May 2) for the next five days. During this period, there is a possibility of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with strong winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 km per hour in some areas. The Meteorological Center in Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert regarding this. The rain and hail in the mountains have affected the temperature.

A drop of 1.1 degrees has been recorded in the temperature. It has now fallen 2.8 degrees below normal. The highest temperature was recorded in Bathinda at 39.9 degrees. According to the Meteorological Center, there is a possibility of storms and light to moderate rain in seven districts today.

These districts include Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa, and Rupnagar. In some places here, lightning and strong winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 km per hour are also likely.

The temperature in all districts is below 40 degrees

The temperature in all districts of the state has been recorded below 40 degrees. Temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius have been recorded in a total of 11 districts. The highest temperature was recorded at Bathinda Airforce Station at 39.2 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded a temperature of 35.8 degrees, showing a drop of 0.2 degrees.

Ludhiana recorded 35.2 degrees with a drop of 3 degrees, and Patiala recorded 35.6 degrees with a drop of 1.9 degrees. Chandigarh recorded a temperature of 35.2 degrees, showing a decrease of 1.6 degrees. In Pathankot, the temperature remained steady at 36 degrees.

Fazilka recorded a temperature of 37.5 degrees with no change, while in Firozpur the mercury reached 37.2 degrees, showing an increase of 0.6 degrees. In the Bhakra Dam area, the temperature fell by 2.3 degrees to 36 degrees.

A Western Disturbance will reach the mountains

May 1 has passed. Now, there is about a month left for the monsoon to arrive. This time, there is a possibility of El Niño. Currently, a cyclonic circulation is present near Delhi and Haryana, where the cyclonic flow of winds continues. Similarly, a cyclonic circulation is also active over West Bengal.

Today, a Western Disturbance is going to reach the mountains. In such a situation, there is also a possibility of a cyclonic circulation forming over Rajasthan. Due to moisture coming from the Arabian Sea, there may be rain in the areas of Punjab and Chandigarh. However, significant changes are not expected on May 3.

Possibility of Rain and Storms Throughout the Week

According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Meteorological Center Chandigarh, light rain may occur in some areas on May 2, 3, 6, and 7, while on May 4 and 5, light rain is likely in many parts of the state. In the next 48 hours, the maximum temperature may rise by up to 2 degrees Celsius, after which a drop of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in temperature is expected.

On May 2 and 7, strong winds at a speed of 30-40 km per hour may blow in some areas along with thunder and lightning. Meanwhile, from May 3 to 6, thunder and lightning and strong winds at a speed of 40-50 km per hour are likely in some areas.

May 4 – In Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali), there is a possibility of thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 km per hour in some areas. There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in these areas.

May 5 – In Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, Mansa, and Sangrur, there is a possibility of thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds blowing at a speed of 30-40 km per hour in some areas.
