Amritsar: Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence team has arrested two suspected drug smugglers and recovered 5 kg of heroin during a special operation in Amritsar, as part of the state government’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on his official X account, stating that an FIR had been registered under relevant sections at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused allegedly procured large consignments of heroin through an unidentified network and supplied the contraband to different locations across Punjab.
Police Investigate Drug Supply Network
Police are questioning the arrested accused to establish the source of the recovered heroin and identify those involved in the alleged supply network.
Investigators are working to trace both forward and backward linkages to determine where the consignment originated, who supplied it and which individuals or groups were supposed to receive it.
Officials are also examining whether the heroin was brought into Punjab through drones or other routes, including possible cross-border channels. However, the source and transportation method of the seized consignment have not yet been established.
Probe Underway to Identify More Accused
The investigation is also focusing on how long the arrested suspects have allegedly been involved in drug trafficking and whether they are connected to a larger organised syndicate.
Punjab Police said the scope of the investigation was being expanded to identify other individuals linked to the network and dismantle its supply chain.
Further arrests are expected as investigators examine the forward and backward connections of the accused.
