At least five people lost their lives in a horrific road accident in Rajasthan’s Chaksu area on Saturday morning after the car they were travelling in collided with a trailer truck on the busy Kota‑Jaipur National Highway (NH‑52). Police said the crash occurred when the car driver allegedly dozed off at the wheel, causing the vehicle to ram into the moving trailer ahead near the Tigariya turn. Four occupants, including a woman, died on the spot, while a young man later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. All the deceased were reportedly from Madhya Pradesh.
According to Chaksu SHO Manohar Lal Meghwal, the accident occurred around early Saturday morning as the car was travelling from Madhya Pradesh towards Jaipur. The high‑impact crash left the vehicle badly mangled and trapped the victims inside, prompting an immediate response from local police and accident‑rescue teams who rushed to the NH‑52 site after receiving information about the collision.
Police confirmed that four people including a woman died instantly, while another victim was critically injured and later passed away while being taken to a hospital. The identities of those killed include residents such as Reshma Shrivastava, her husband Akhilesh Shrivastava, Piyush Rai, Rajak Rahul, and the driver Anurag; the fifth body has yet to be formally identified.
Following the accident, traffic on the national highway was temporarily disrupted, and authorities, along with accident response teams, worked to clear the site. The damaged vehicles were removed with the help of a crane to restore the flow of traffic, and the bodies were taken to the mortuary of Chaksu Sub‑District Hospital. Police have notified the families of the deceased and are carrying out post‑mortem examinations while investigation into the exact cause continues.
Officials are also probing the circumstances that led to the driver allegedly losing control due to fatigue, underscoring concerns about driver tiredness and road safety on long highway journeys. Fatigue is a known risk factor behind many serious road accidents across the country, especially on long inter‑state routes.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers of drowsy driving, particularly on long highway stretches where drivers cover extensive distances at high speeds. Road safety experts stress that motorists should avoid driving when fatigued and take regular breaks during long trips to prevent loss of control — a factor that may have played a role in this fatal collision.
Local residents and commuters have expressed shock over the accident, with many urging authorities to step up awareness campaigns on safe driving practices and evaluate measures such as rest stops along major national highways to help prevent similar tragedies.
