    Youth arrested with 507 grams opium in Amritsar

    Amritsar: As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Amritsar district, Bhindi Saidan police arrested a young man and recovered 507 grams of opium from his possession during a routine patrol.

    According to the police, Head Constable Pragat Singh and his team were patrolling near the bridge on the main road close to Punga village when they spotted a young man approaching on foot.

    Youth changes route after seeing police

    Upon noticing the police team, the man allegedly attempted to change his route. Suspecting his behaviour, the officers stopped him and conducted a search.

    During the search, police recovered 507 grams of opium wrapped in a wax-paper packet from his possession.

    The police seized the contraband and arrested the accused, identified as Sucha Singh, son of Jagtar Singh, a resident of Chhanna Kalan under the jurisdiction of Bhindi Saidan police station.

    Police investigate opium supply network

    A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

    Police are questioning the accused to determine the source of the opium and identify the person or persons to whom it was allegedly intended to be supplied.

    Further investigation into the matter is underway.
