A tragic accident occurred in Haryana’s Gurugram after an under-construction wall collapsed at a residential project site, killing at least seven workers and injuring several others. The incident took place at the Signature Global housing project located in Sidhrawali village on the outskirts of Gurugram.

According to officials, the accident happened late on Monday evening when a group of labourers were working at the construction site. The sudden collapse of the wall caused debris and soil to cave in, trapping workers beneath the rubble. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched an operation to pull out the trapped labourers.

Several Workers Trapped Under Debris

Reports indicate that around 12 to 15 workers were present near the site when the wall collapsed. The structure was part of an under-construction sewage treatment plant (STP) within the residential project.

The collapse buried several workers under heavy debris and soil, leading to panic at the construction site. Fellow workers and bystanders immediately began rescue efforts and tried to pull the trapped labourers out with their hands before emergency teams arrived.

Police, fire brigade personnel, and teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) soon reached the location and took over the rescue operation.

Seven Workers Confirmed Dead

Authorities confirmed that seven workers lost their lives in the accident. The injured labourers were rushed to nearby hospitals, including facilities in neighbouring Bhiwadi, where doctors declared several victims dead on arrival.

Officials have identified several victims, including Satish, Bhagirath, Milan, Shiv Shankar, Mangal, and Parmeshwar, while others injured in the accident remain in critical condition.

Medical authorities stated that many of the victims likely died due to severe injuries and suffocation after being trapped under the rubble for a prolonged period.

Rescue Operation and Emergency Response

Rescue teams continued clearing debris for hours to ensure that no more workers remained trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Emergency responders used heavy machinery and manual efforts to remove rubble carefully and avoid further collapse.

Officials said that the rescue operation involved multiple agencies, including local police, fire department personnel, and disaster response teams. Ambulances were stationed at the site to quickly transport injured workers to hospitals.

Eyewitnesses said the collapse occurred suddenly, leaving the labourers with little time to escape.

Investigation Ordered into the Incident

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the wall collapse. Initial reports suggest that a soil cave-in in the basement area may have triggered the structural failure.

Police officials stated that they will examine whether proper safety measures were followed at the construction site. Statements from contractors, engineers, and workers present at the location are being recorded as part of the inquiry.

If negligence or violation of safety norms is found, legal action may be taken against those responsible.

The tragedy has once again raised concerns about labour safety at construction sites across rapidly growing urban centres such as Gurugram. Construction workers often operate in hazardous environments with limited safety protection, increasing the risk of accidents.

Experts say strict enforcement of building safety regulations, regular inspections, and better protective measures for labourers are essential to prevent such incidents in the future.

For now, the focus remains on supporting the families of the deceased workers and ensuring that the injured receive proper medical treatment as investigations continue into the fatal collapse.
