Mizoram CM urges people to support PM Modi’s efforts to safeguard independence

New Delhi: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday urged citizens to continue supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to safeguard India’s independence, strengthen unity, and preserve Mizoram’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states.

Speaking at the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Assam Rifles ground, he highlighted multiple initiatives aimed at strengthening community ties, boosting security, and fostering development.

‘Mizo Diaspora Hub’ Launched to Connect Global Mizo Community

The Chief Minister announced the creation of a dedicated ‘Mizo Diaspora Cell’ within his office and the launch of the ‘Mizo Diaspora Hub’ portal to connect with Mizos living abroad.

Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer, also revealed that a ‘Mizo Territorial Army’ has been approved, with recruitment underway for two companies.

Additionally, plans are in place to enlist 300 Mizo youths into the Border Security Force (BSF), and five have already joined the British Army through the Mizoram Youth Commission.

Revived Anti-Drugs Efforts and Agricultural Boost

Addressing challenges in tackling drug abuse, Lalduhoma announced the revival of the ‘Ruihlo Dotu Pawl’ (Anti-Drugs Squad) after two years, with coordination from churches and civil organisations.

On the agricultural front, the government has purchased key produce — broom, turmeric, Mizo chilli, rice hull, and ginger — providing support prices and promoting farmer welfare.

Sports, Rubber Plantation, and Banking Reforms in Focus

Under the CM’s Rubber Mission, 3,000 hectares of plantations are planned in two phases, alongside the distribution of 100 rubber-tapping machines.

A Rs 2.5 crore investment has been made in the “Empowering Mizoram Sports” programme to help young athletes aim for the 2036 Olympics. Lalduhoma also stressed the need to improve Mizoram’s low Credit-Deposit ratio, urging banks to lend more locally.

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated across Mizoram through multiple functions and cultural events.
