Jalandhar: A case has been registered against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through a scene in their recently released film Jaat. The FIR, filed on Thursday by Jalandhar Police, also names the Film’s Director, Gopichand Malineni and its producers.
The complaint, lodged by a christian community representative, alleges that the film disrespects Jesus Christ and was “deliberately released” during the holy period of Good Friday and Easter to provoke unrest, The FIR has been registered under Section 299 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feeling.
Jaat, which was released on April 10, stars Sunny Deol in the lead with Randeep Hooda as the antagonist. The film also features Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, and Jagapathi Babu. Directed by Malineni in his Hindi debut, the film was earned over Rs. 32 crore in its first weekend and over Rs. 32 crore in its first weekend and was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Amid the controversy, Sunny Deol has announced a sequel, Jaat 2, is already in the works.
