Khadur Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s detention under NSA extended by one year

He has been lodged there for the past two years.

The detention of Khadur Sahib MP and Khalistani activist Amritpal Singh, has been extended by another year by the Punjab government. He is currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA). He has been lodged there for the past two years.

This case is important because the detention of 9 other associates arrested along with Amritpal under the NSA has not been extended yet. According to police sources, some additional clues and intelligence information have come to light against Amritpal. Due to which he is still considered a threat to the law and order of the state.

Considering this, the detention of Amritpal Singh has been extended by one more year.

It should be noted that Amritpal’s two-year detention period under the NSA is set to complete on April 23. Earlier a team from the Punjab Police had prepared to bring Amritpal back to Punjab. But seeing the situation of law and order, it was decided to extend his detention under the NSA for another year.

On the recommendation of the District Magistrate of Amritsar, the State Home Department approved the extension of his custody for one more year.

Apart from NSA, Amritpal Singh is also facing charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Amritpal Singh has been in custody since 23 April 2023. Soon after his arrest, the NSA was imposed on him, and he was sent to Dibrugarh jail in Assam. The government imposed the NSA, calling his activities a threat to the security of the state and now, after two years, the government has decided to extend NSA on him for the third time.
